IN Person Movement Offerings

My movement offerings are the finished product of what happens when you mix one part anatomy nerd with equal parts of playfulness, curiosity of the potential that is within all of us, joy of movement, applied neuroscience and sensitivity. I believe it is a gift to be embodied and have enjoyed teaching, training, and performing in various movement disciplines: from taking my first yoga class in 1995 through training in the aerial and circus arts starting in 2011 and completing my 200 hour Anusara inspired yoga teacher training in 2016 and 300 hour training with Noah Maze in 2022. The combination of witnessing other’s potential and exploring the edges of my own mind, body and spirit has been instrumental in shaping my life. I now use my own handstand training as a form of moving meditation.

“Students that take Joanne’s classes report are able to explore and play in postures with more ease, improved body awareness and access a greater depth in poses. With an eye for detailed alignment and depth of anatomical knowledge, Joanne enjoys working with students of all abilities and gently encourages them to move beyond what is familiar and initially thought to be possible.”

Are you curious about exploring the edges of your movement practice, your body and mind?

In this 3-week series, we will focus on building the strength, flexibility and the coordination needed to successfully achieve headstands, handstands and other inversions all at your own pace and space.

Each 90-minute class will focus on a whole-body warm-up, drills to increase your foundational strength and body awareness in a variety of postures all building up to your expression of handstand or headstand. We will change the orientation of our bodies to gravity while in familiar shapes like lunge or straddle. We will use repetition to help calm our nervous system and will play with preparatory headstand or handstand drills at the wall to further develop awareness and postural control while upside down.

This 3-week series is open to beginner to intermediate students that are able to comfortably hold a push-up or downward dog for at least 60 seconds. Some experience kicking up into headstand is helpful but not required. Additional challenges will be provided for intermediate students that are working on free-standing handstands.

I look forward to seeing you upside down! Discover how flipping your movement practice upside down can be an incredible teacher and cross-trainer for life.

  • Saturdays, from 2-3:30pm on December 7th, 14th, and 21st, 2024

Offered through The LITL Studio. Physical Address is 3366 W. Overland Road, Boise, ID 83705

  • Good news! No one is ready for 90-minutes of handstands. Some experience of weightbearing through your hands is helpful (i.e. push-up position, Sun Salutations). We will focus on foundational strength building, tissue lengthening and repetition of shapes before we apply what we’ve learned to being upside-down. Modifications for headstand and forearm stand will be provided for individuals with wrist or hand injuries. We will spend up to 10-15 minutes total in handstand or headstand.

Each class in this series is designed to safely introduce you and your body to the world of handstands, headstands and other inversions.

  • A yoga mat, socks, and water.

An open and curious mindset is helpful when playing with your expression of handstand. Most of us work through a level of fear, doubt, self-sabotage, and/or distraction when we flip our bodies upside-down.

  • Joanne (she/her) has been fascinated by movement from the moment she could climb her parents’ furniture. This curiosity led her to her first yoga class in 1995 and carried her through training in the aerial and circus arts starting in 2011. The combination of witnessing other’s potential and exploring the edges of her own mind, body and spirit has been instrumental in shaping her life. Joanne completed her 200-hour Anusara inspired yoga teacher training in 2016 and 300-hour training with Noah Maze in 2022. She now uses her own handstand training as a form of moving meditation.

  • You are welcome to drop-in and take a class for $30 or sign up for the entire 3-class series for $75 either IN person at the studio OR ONLINE:
